In Bali, plastic bags were thrown away by tourists and residents.
この文では「受動態」が使われていますね。
“throw A away”で「Aを捨てる」という表現です。これも意外と登場することが多いので覚えておきましょう。今回はAが“plastic bags”で，これが主語になっているということです。
“resident”は「住民」という名詞です。
They were polluting the beaches.
この文では「過去進行形」が使われていますね。“pollute”は「を汚染する」という動詞です。
So two young sisters started a movement to ban plastic bags from the island in 2013.
“movement”は「運動，活動」という名詞になります。“ban”は「禁止する」という動詞ですね。「アカウントをバンする」などと言いますね。 また「不定詞の形容詞的用法」も使われていますよ！
