Therefore, we would like you to think of a way to make sure that all children and youth around the world learn about the SDGs and feel like being part of the process from 2015 on.
To conclude, actions should follow from all these words.
「最後に、これらすべての言葉に続いて行動を起こすべきです。」
All young people, and families around the world, depend on you and your actions.
「世界中のすべての若者、家族があなた方とあなた方の行動を頼っています。」
We look forward to actively working with you, to create and reach goals for our common, sustainable future, because not only youth but all generations will be part of the solution.
We are discussing youth at the United Nations, with almost no youth in the room.
We are making decisions about the future, without future generations here.
It is good to talk ABOUT young people, but it is a lot better to talk WITH young people.
You will, then, find that young people share many of your concerns, and that we often have a clear view on how to make things better.
I am going to ask you to give your attention to youth concerns such as education, employment, equality, and good governance.
They are very important for the younger generation.
We must put young people at the center of the design, practice and monitoring of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This speech includes the ideas of tens of other young people from around the world, since they actively took part in the open writing of this speech.
In doing so, something became very clear.
We, as people, with our differences and diverse cultures, should work together as one.
We have to make sure that all cultures, all ages, and all differences between people are recognized in the goals.
Diversity is not a weak point.
It is our strong point.
Youth is showing it by working together.
First, the fast increasing numbers of youth unemployment are of deep concern.
We as youth should be educated to face present and future challenges.
We must have new and sustainable skills that prepare us for work.
Second, new frameworks should make sure that the weakest and most marginalized groups are included.
We must remove the problems they face in using basic services, economic opportunities, and political and human rights.
Supporting equal opportunities and reducing social inequalities will lead to more sustainable societies.
For example, SDGs should make sure that all girls have good education and health services.
And third, fair governance is among the top priorities of young people around the world.
We want a world in which decision-makers have integrity and responsibility.
Unfortunately, no young people I spoke with in my country knew about this very “far away” UN process.
Therefore, we would like you to think of a way to make sure that all children and youth around the world learn about the SDGs and feel like being part of the process from 2015 on.
We must work together for sustainable development.
There is so much to know about what younger people can do.
Did you know that an Indian-American girl developed a super energy-efficient cell phone charger that could charge a phone in 20 seconds?
That a high school student in the USA designed the fastest and cheapest cancer detector ever?
And that a boy from the Netherlands created a system to clean the plastic soup in the oceans?
These young people have led us to the present state.
Youth should play a leading role in the new development framework.
It is, however, your task to help all of us to become part of the solution.
We can have a chance at real and long-term success, only if we succeed in working together with different generations right now.
To conclude, actions should follow from all these words.
All young people, and families around the world, depend on you and your actions.
We look forward to actively working with you, to create and reach goals for our common, sustainable future, because not only youth but all generations will be part of the solution.
